This series of collages began as a simple idea, if you emptied out a curious childs pocket what would the contents look like grouped together. Maybe not all of you can relate but as a child I was something of a magpie and I think that way of looking at the world still informs my art now.
This piece is one of a series about the ocean. The collage is entitled "Atlas", named after the mythic god who holds the world in his palm. The series focuses on the themes of power and creation, buried treasures and the human desire to create myths when faced with something so large and unknowable. The items that make up the collage all relate to the sea my home looks out upon either in that they came from its waters or shores or mimic its ever changing colours. Together they make up a sort of time capsule, a piece of history that isn't often collected. The collage comes with a full list of the objects.
The white box frame, which is included in the price, is 23cms/9inches in width and height and 4.5cms/2inches in depth. The mount is also a soft white and the collage itself is 14cms/5.5inches in width and height. The objects are sealed with acrylic varnish.The frame can be hung from a small metal attachment on the back of the piece, pictured in the last image.
All items from hansel and petal are gift wrapped in traditional brown paper and hemp string entwined with paper hearts and beads. The mosaic can be posted on the next working day after payment is recieved and should arrive in Europe or the US within 6 to 9 working days. I use registered post which offers a premium secure delivery with track and trace facilities.
