The button was used as an accessory on such garments as petticoats, doublets, drawers and waistcoats. Its use peaked in the 16th and 17th centuries. There is a whole range of different types, and although older buttons come in large sizes, today’s taste leans towards smaller models and different uses (cufflinks, rings, earrings, bracelets, etc.) designed as personal jewellery.
