The paints I use are a nontoxic grade of tile paint that cures to the rock and is even heat proof up to 350 degrees which makes this a very durable paint. On top of this paint is a tile sealant that also aids in the curing process. Tiny brushes are used in creating fine details.
You are looking at a nice quality fine art stone. Each stone is an original work of art and no two are ever exact. This is what makes these very unique art treasures. Just designing on a round surface is challenging for most rock artists. I have been painting on rocks since I was 12 and saw how animals could fit into the shapes of the stones. Nature with in nature is what forms on these stones.
On a more personal note, I have been working on this particular rock painting for a very long time now and the detail about drove me up a wall. Yes the photo you see is me looking so serious as I tackled this. Needless to say it is complete and finally ready for a dragon collector.
This came about as a "rock challenge" a fellow artist and I did together. Amy Lenore, a wonderful snake rock painter, inspired me to attempt scales. As I attempted to paint scales, her goal was to paint something furry. You should see her snakes! http://www.etsy.com/shop/amylenore . Look at her sold Items.
