Hokusai Teabowl

Teabowl shape + raku fired + Hokusai painting = Japan to the extreme. This piece was thrown on a wheel and painted with underglazes. The image is Hokusai's "Hibiscus and Sparrow". I carved a border around the painting, creating relief to make it more striking. The image was covered with a clear glaze and raku fired. Due to the nature of this type of firing, the piece is NOT functional for food, drink, or other liquids. The piece is about 4.5" wide.
