I'm pleased to have finally found a second set of these exceptional antique bird chromolithograph bookplate prints by F. W. Frohawk. Frohawk published this series of prints in 1898. The prints I'm selling are from the 2nd edition of Foreign Finches published in 1899.
F. W. Frohawk (1861 - 1946) was an English zoological artist and lepidopterist. He was one of the most noted ornithological artists of the late 19th and early 20th century. His ability to capture the beautiful color and intricate details of the birds is amazing. This series display beautifully, especially matted, framed and in a group. The prints measure 6 3/4 inches X 10 1/4 inches and will fit nicely in a standard frame.
*CONDITION*: The plates are in very good to excellent condition. There is no foxing or marks on any of them. A few show a little wear but nothing significant. The photos show true condition. There is a raw edge where the plate was once attached to the spine. It will be covered by a mat. The edges and corners remain crisp. The paper is not fragile and remains a creamy white. It lies flat. They are in very good condition and photos do not do the colors or quality justice.
**PLEASE NOTE**: Some of the scans make it appear as if the paper is rippled. It is NOT. I think it's a result of the single raw edge not lying completely flat on the scanner bed. I think the light picks it up and makes it appear as if the paper is rippled.
