In the Baroque Period of the 1700's, precious metals and gemstones were used in the jewelry for the wealthy. Wives and daughters of the rich were encouraged to wear extravagant jewelry, thereby showcasing their wealth and success. The stones were most often backed with foil (just like Swarovski rivoli stones) so as to produce brilliant affects of lighting. The jewelry style in the Baroque Period was characterized by liveliness and drama, symmetry and balance.
In this necklace I used elements that highlighted this period: metals, foiled stones, and pearls that mimic the extravagance, the symmetry, and the balance. It is a necklace that a wealthy Baroness would wear!
The Swarovski rivolis are vintage tabac stones that reflect an assortment of colors such as bronze, carmel, burgundy, gold, and olive. The centerpiece consists of 3 separate pieces of antique brass that I hand sewed together and adorned with crystal rivolis and 3 dangle beads.
This necklace measures 17" long and has a hand beaded toggle clasp. The center measures 2 1/2" long. This necklace is completely hand sewn with much love, care, and attention to detail.
This necklace came in 3rd place in the Etsy Beadweavers Team Challenge for March!
