Lily-white and clean, oh!
With little frills between, oh!
Smooth and hot – red rusty spot
Never here be seen, oh!
Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle singing a song about cleaning from "The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle" by Beatrix Potter

Do you ever wonder if when hedgehogs go home in the evening that they unzip their spikey coat and sit in their frilly undergarments?
A modestly beautiful brooch in muted tones, the lace sits about the wool like a petticoat or a veil. It’s quite light for its size and would sit very well on a cardigan or jacket, no doubt it’ll be a confident addition to all already elegant ensemble.
As I often do, I started off by wet-felting a little mink coloured merino wool and onto that hand-stitched some beautifully scalloped vintage trim. As a finishing touch the back is covered with undyed linen – I left the selvedge edge free as I think the frayed edge* is a lovely detail - and that’s it! Gorgeous simplicity.
*but don't worry, because it's the selvedge edge, it won't fray any further.
**Vital statistics:
The Modest Beauty brooch is approx. 4.5cm/1 ¾ inches in diameter and 3.5cm/1 inch at its widest point.
It has a pin back and is finished with a cream linen backing - which of course no one else will see, but you’ll be happy in the knowledge that your brooch is well finished.
**This brooch is ready to ship.
**This brooch will be a limited edition 2, as I only have enough of this lace for 1 more brooch.
** Because I know this will be a treat - either for yourself of some else - it comes wrapped as a treat in a lovely kraft paper box with a drawing of the brooch on the front and the care instructions inside
