Arimaa is an abstract strategy game in which the goal is to move one of your rabbits to the far side of the board. Stronger pieces can push and pull pieces. Pieces pushed or pulled into one of the four trap spaces are captured if there are no supporting forces immediately adjacent to the trap. For more details about how to play, please visit http://www.arimaa.com, or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arimaa.
Chess pieces may be used to play Arimaa, and these pieces may be used to play chess.
This item is a hand cast set of Arimaa pieces, and includes a vinyl board on which to play the game.
The pieces are made of epoxy resin with gold and silver colored pigment. Steel is added for additional weight. All of the pieces together weigh one kilogram. The elephants weigh about 95 grams each. Each rabbit weighs about 16 grams. Each piece has a disk of paper velvet attached to the bottom. The elephants are about 3 inches tall, and a rabbit is about 2 inches tall.
The pieces are fairly durable, but repeated stress to the ears or tusks, or any sharp blow could cause a break or chip. This can happen if the pieces are stored loose in a box or bag and transported in a car, for instance. Please wrap or secure all pieces prior to transport and treat the pieces with care.
The pieces are cast in a flexible silicone rubber mold. Each mold has a cut from the nose (or trunk) of the piece to the bottom of the front of the piece, which means that there is a parting or mold line on each piece in that area. The elephant may also have mold lines near the bottom of the ears.
The board is made of a premium vinyl with the board graphics silk-screened on using a solvent ink that binds to the vinyl. The board is 18"x18", with 2"x2" squares.
