This stunning pair of moss grey spats - dating from approx late Victorian times - were made by the boot department of Hope Brothers Ltd from London and Provinces.
Made of fine woolen fabric, these spats are edged in leather complete with inner leather patches to maintain shape (please see picture 2). The fully working metal buckle fastens the aged and worn leather straps in place.
These have obviously been very much loved and worn - which shows most at their edges - and there is one very small tear on one spat - (see picture 5) which could be easily repaired. These are around 100 years old (unlike any of the modern copies) and obviously show some marks and stains of time and wear - which I personally believe just adds to their unique vintage beauty.
What stories and memories of love and loss, joys and woe do these spats hold within their fabric?
6 of the buttons look original - one button is now missing from the top of one of the spats (this can easily be replaced) where as the 8th button (top of the 2nd spat) is similar is style and colour but slightly bigger than the others.
Suitable for both men and women - these would add character to any period or contemporary outfit and would be perfect for that vintage enthusiast, steampunk lover or historical appreciater.
8" long front to back (width)
5.75" lowest to highest point (height)
I do not know how best to measure these - so if you require any other measurements then please do not hesitate in getting in touch.
