..that was the dilemma for John Singer Sargent ..that great artist from the last century.
Could he paint that magical transient moment that lasts no more than a couple of minutes most ..for night approaches..and capture that most perfect color of mauve when the sun, still flush in the sky and the light of the chinese lanterns glow.. equally?
( read more on Sargent and the story of his fascinating painting here.. http://middleearths.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html )
John Singer Sargent's painting, 'Carnation,Lily, Lily, Rose' ..see last photo at right..was the inspiration for this necklace pendant created for the Art Bead Scene blog February challenge.( http://artbeadscene.blogspot.com )
My TwilightBlue necklace pendant became a medley of blues.. a jumbled array of ribbon and rags with chains and vintage beads of all sorts and species. Hand patina-ed, handpainted..hand distressed in a attempt to obtain the peaceful tone and dusky textures of twilight that John Singer Sargent so wonderfully captured on canvas.
But the main stage is most certainly taken by a beautiful melancholy blue raku cross focal pendant by the talented etsy artist, wondrousstrange.
The cross focal hangs on lush midnight blue and faded grey velvet, dusty blue green vintage calico print fabric and sun-faded lavender silk rag strips that make up the ribbons.. inspired by the little girl's dresses. Tiny czech picasso beads add tiny sparks of rosy light .. these a suggestion from the glowing pink chinese lanterns.
A long and sultry length..33" (84cm), the raku cross focal is 3" (75mm).
This necklace can be worn doubled and shorter..the bevy of chains and ribbons become a striking tangle of textures, colors and beads for a 'scarf-like' collar choker look. (all copper chains and beads are patina-ed, then sealed for long life and safe wear ..new 'arts' from a wonderful tuturial from this fascinating etsy shop.. http://www.etsy.com/shop/missficklemedia )
