I'm having a massive moving sale and this drawing is part of it! I am moving from Bellevue to Queen Anne, and will be re-doing my studio, and so I am putting tons of original drawings on sale.
Swirls of petals and flowers trickled and pooled at her feet/ the world splayed out before her.
I created this painting with rich black traditional Japanese sumi ink and red watercolors on 16 x 20in (40.6 x 50.8cm) 140lb cold press watercolor paper. It is sized ready to mat and/or frame. Signed and dated in black ink at the bottom.
I used the wet-on-wet watercolor technique of wetting the paper first, then applying wet ink to let the colors spread and bleed organically, afterwards drawing on chrysanthemums and loose petals. This piece while definitely about loss-of-innocence, is about discovery, curiosity and amazement at how large the world suddenly is.
