White-crowned sparrows are all over North America, and they're big, beautiful and fairly gregarious birds. A great deal of research has been done on their song development and song dialects (if you enjoy that sort of thing, I'd recommend looking into it). While juveniles' crowns are striped light & dark brown, the adults (both male and female) have bright white and black stripes that make them one of the easiest North American Emberizidae to identify.
