Instead of continuing with the freeform theme, I decided that a contrasting style would be more exciting, and so I went with a squared motif which brings to mind the sharp geometry of the Art Deco style, further emphasized by the metallic and faceted glass beads used in each connecting link.
The colours are a gorgeous, rich melange: semi-translucent chartreuse dagger beads, golden bronze seed beads, dewdrop fringe beads in gold and lime, larger frosty seed beads in soft straw gold and pale grass green, and faceted Czech beads in a partially metallicized violet-pink.
The geometric connectors are hand-sewn, one bead at a time, to achieve the intricately complex effect which offsets the swirling glass rings.
I chose to keep the back of the necklace simple and comfortable in a smooth, flexible, mostly seed-beaded sewn rope with sewn toggle closure.
Not for the faint of heart, this necklace sits mid-chest on a medium frame, measuring almost twenty-nine inches. The glass rings range in size from about an inch and a quarter to almost two inches across.
Named for the premier icon of Art Deco, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, this necklace was made for the Etsy Beadweavers' March Challenge, "Fashion Through the Ages". Please visit our team blog, (http://www.etsy-beadweavers.blogspot.com) between the 9th and 15th and vote for your favorite entry.
