Starting with the covers, you'll find shredded Canadian banknotes in the handmade paper used to cover the recycled bookboard. This paper, and the green paper used for the endpapers, was made by a local papermaker, Botanical Paperworks. The inside is filled with 168 pages (counting both sides), of reclaimed banking envelopes. These envelopes were unused--the bank simply changed their design and donated these to my local art recycling centre. They are blank on one side, and have one or two 1 cm sized holes on each page.
Thees mini books are bound with waxed linen thread using a double needle coptic binding leaving a lovely chain stitch on the spine. This allows the book to lie perfectly flat when open. I have used a Canadian five cent piece (nickel) for a button closure.
Each journal measures 11.1 x 11.7 cm (4.25 x 4.5”).
This listing is for a set of two books. Coins shown are not included, with the exception of the button sewn onto the journal.
