Sweetwater Felted Hipster Bags Knitting Pattern by Lavender Hill Knits

The Sweetwater Hipster Bag in two sizes – a large bag for teens/adults and a sweet little smaller size for girls. Both are great basic felted bags that you can wear anytime. The large size knits up quickly using two strands of worsted weight yarn held together, the child’s size uses one strand. Both are knit in the round and there is no seaming! Well, maybe one seam of 6 stitches if you make the bag with felted handles. You can embellish this bag with needle felting, embroidery, a crocheted flower, or a special pin. It also looks great with no embelishment, just use an interesting button as a focal point for your bag. The Sweetwater Hipster is such a fun bag to make and wear and because it knits up quickly you can make one in all your favorite colors!!

The large bag shown with the leather strap has side tabs with snaps. This allows you to remove the strap to wash the bag, and you only need to purchase one leather strap no matter how many bags you make!

Materials needed for adult sized bag:
420-530 yards of worsted weight wool yarn
16” size 13 circular knitting needle
2 large heavy duty decorative snaps (available in craft or fabric stores) for attaching a separate strap if desired-- that way you can make several bags and just need one strap:)
46” strap (or desired length) with a metal ring on each end
¼ yard fabric if you are lining the bag
¾” or 1” button

Materials needed for child's size bag:
200 yards of worsted weight wool yarn
16" size 10.5 circular knitting needle
3/4" button
small amount of fabric if you are lining the bag

Finished bag measurements for large bag: (depending on how long you felt your bag) approx.
8 1/2 - 9 1/2" wide, 8-9" high, 1 3/4" deep
Finished bag measurements for child's bag:
6 3/4” wide, 6” high, 1” deep
