This design style blossomed in Paris in the 1920’s and flourished internationally throughout the 1930’s.
This chocker was created for the Etsy Bead Weaver’s February challenge “ fashion style from any period of fashion”.
Art Deco’s bold, linear symmetry was a distant departure from the soft pastels and flowing asymmetrical organic forms of its predecessor Art Nouveau.
The structure of Art Deco is based on mathematical geometric shapes. It was widely considered to be an eclectic form of elegant and stylish modernism, integrating elements from Africa, historical styles of Greco-Roman Classicism, art of Babylon, Assyria, Ancient Egypt and Aztec Mexico. (this information was found on Wikipedia, check it out if you would like to learn more about the Art Deco period).
I was inspired by an Art Deco brooch; the color inspiration came from the peacock. The peacock’s colors are so lavish and elegant I felt it was appropriate for the design. Using seed beads, bugles beads, crystals of different sizes in colors you will find in the peacock eye feather. The collar is lined with ultrasuede so that it is soft against your skin.
Dimensions: 13 1/2" L x 7"W (includes feathers)
