Please feel free to ask questions and for more photos if needed, as this is a final sale purchase. Let's work out any concerns beforehand. This has been in my smoke and pet free home. Although the most recent previous owner did have cats, there seems to be no odor or stray fur on this, as it was brushed before being exhibited at a hat show of 100 hats in March 2010.
This hat was purchased following the March 1, 2009 estate sale of Linda Feigenheimer of Winnetka, IL. The newspaper ad from that sale read "300 hats..." This is the second hat of the many purchased to be offered for sale since that day, outside of a few sold at a live auction at a Chicago auction house later that year.
Why would a hat from this estate be so noteworthy? Linda was more than a casual collector of vintage. She paid the most money ever for another hat at a New York auction house in 1999, the Independence Hat made by Benjamin Green-Field, of Bes Ben hats. The bidding was between her and a New York bidder, ending with a total cost over $18,000. For more details of Linda's collection see my millinery blog post: http://froufrou4youyou.wordpress.com/2011/01/05/linda-feigenheimer-had-hats/
You are buying a wonderful hat, but a bit of millinery history with a major story to it as well.
