What makes this book very special is that it is illustrated by the noted cartoonist M.T. "Penny" Ross. Something about the style Ross used really fits with the silly, anthropomorphic fruit-and-veggie people depicted in this book. Look at the photos and be delighted!
This book was copyrighted by Volland in 1914, but this is a Wise-Parslow printing that has no mention of a later publishing date. Based upon the fact that Wise-Parslow reissued some Volland books in the early 1930's after Volland closed up shop, I'm going to place its age around 70-80 years old.
At 95 pages long, there is much to see in this cutie! If you need any motivation to start thinking about your garden or to cook with more fruits and veggies, you'll get it here.
BOOK CONDITION
This clothbound book has some bending at the tips and wear around the spine, but the cover is really very clean and the illustration and lettering is bright.
The interior has an gift dedication plate on an early page from Christmas 1940. There are a a few small closed tears at the bottom of pages, but they are no more than 1 inch in length. There are a few spots and smudges here and there and a few pages show that they were handled, but this book is largely clean and the binding is strong.
