This is a gorgeous vintage knitted boucle dress which I acquired as part of a lot filled with knit dresses from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Judging from the longer length and rather more fitted skirt shaping of this particular garment, along with the warm brown and mint green colour palette, my best guess is that it is from the 1930s, though the slightly dolman sleeve shaping, the sleeve length, etc, suggest it could be 1940s?; in either case, it is a stunner! Body of dress is made of a tri-coloured cotton blend green, mauve, and brown boucle yarn that has been knitted so as to create the look of horizontal stripes. Appears to have been hand made, as is evident from the little tie offs visible inside dress. Elastic at inner waistband. Border around collar (which can fasten closed with metal hook, thereby creating a key hole), around key hole, and stripes on 3/4 length sleeve cuffs are done in a brown yarn that has metallic gold threads running through it. This same yarn was used to make the matching belt. All in all, this is a cozy and sultry dress, from what I think is the most interesting and beautiful time in the history of knitwear!
