I have done a number of predator-and-prey themed gourds, and I like the interaction that plays out in this circular motif. In this piece, a red tailed hawk is in the distance, closing in on a hare running along the ground. Both have symbolic meaning, so I have used various Native American designs as an accent to this theme. This is a smaller gourd, approximately 4" X 6", that comes with a stand as it has a rounded base. It is painted black inside. The design was wood burned, then painted with acrylic. Various parts of the design were inlaid with abalone and malachite for texture and contrast. It has been sprayed with clear acrylic for protection, initialed and dated.
