Perfect mid-century modern lighting for your hall or dining table. Or anywhere you need a splash of "wow!"
This is an all original, authentic, and complete Sciolari hanging chandelier from the 1960s. Complete with its original shipping carton and packing inserts. I kid you not. The original carton, and all the original hanging and installation hardware components too.
Comprised of reflective and transparent surfaces, this hanging ceiling light is visually compelling eye candy, a confection of light and silver and flash, just loaded with mid century modern goodness.
From the design studios of Gaetano Scolari, Italy, 1960s.
Think of it over a dining table, in your office, or gracing a stair hall in front of a window. Think of it in your very own home. You will absolutely love living with and showing off this wonderful Sciolari chandelier.
Gleaming brass, chrome, and sparkling Lucite construction. Eight silver-colored vertical rods have sockets for 12 lamps. Eight of the 12 lamp sockets are on the top side of the chandelier; the remaining four are on the underside. We've fitted it out with brand-new tubular lamps (chandelier base) which come included.
The dollar bill in the 2 pictures is there to give an idea of this lighting fixture's scale. Even so, the chandelier has greater visual presence than actual physical volume. This makes a huge statement for a modestly-sized lighting device.
From Lucite tip to tip (overall height) the fixture measures only 14 inches. From ceiling to the underside of the chandelier, installed, the total length is 32 inches - that includes the long silver-toned rectangular hanging bar. The main body of the chandelier measures approximately 24" x 24". The main part is 28" when measured on the diagonal.
All of the original hardware for ceiling-mounting the chandelier is present, including the long rectangular rod with hanging loop and the original ceiling canopy with its original green 1960s "Sciolari" adhesive paper label. That adhesive label is on the underside of the canopy. Ask me if you want to see a photo.
The chandelier has what we believe to be its original electrical wiring. For safety we urge the buyer to have the chandelier fully evaluated for safety of use, and to have the fixture installed by a qualified, licensed professional electrician. That's if you want to light it up, which we hope you do (after it's been cleared for takeoff.)
We photographed the Sciolari ceiling fixture in as-found condition, just as we found it after having been packed up in 1985 and stored away for more than 25 years in its original shipping carton, with all the original packaging inserts and supports. (Can you believe that it comes in its original box???) We added (and removed) a temporary electrical connection to light it for these photos.
This chandelier has been waiting a quarter-century for someone to open the box and re-discover how absolutely awesome this Sciolari design is!
The chandelier and its hardware are both in very good vintage condition. There are some spots here and there on the uprights and a few of the curved metal pieces that testify to the chandelier's age. Its few blemishes are minor, minor, minor compared to the amazing brilliance of this design and its overall clean condition. We did not wipe off, dust, clean or polish any of the parts, believing this is best accomplished when the chandelier is taken apart for evaluation by that qualified electrician we've mentioned you need to get to look it over if you intend to wire this up for use.
When I first found this I searched online to find out more about it. At that time - about a year ago - there were several examples of this Sciolari model for sale on some of the internet's most high-end Mid Century Modern and Modernist / Moderne sites, including 1stDibs.com -- all priced over $2800, one more than $3200. They were each sold in the following month and the images taken down, so I can't give you links to go see them. Just saying.
Please write if you would like to chat with me about anything at all concerning this chandelier, or to request additional images. As you might guess, it's very difficult to capture this item's full visual impact in five photographs. Or even after five hours of admiring the chandelier in your dining room, bed room, store or company conference room.
