Good for the environment, and your garden, too!
An excellent alternative to peat pots.
Peat is being harvested at an alarming rate by the horticultural industry.
Peat is a finite resource. Once it's gone, that's it!
Newspaper print is vegetable soy ink, which is not toxic to the environment or your garden.
The newspaper breaks down naturally, and the seedlings grown in them can be planted directly into the ground, which means tender roots on your seedlings are not disturbed.

While trying my best to be ecologically aware, and trying to do what I can for the environment, I'd like to share some information about why using peat pots to start seeds isn't such a great idea, and why newspaper pots are the perfect alternative.
.
The effects on the dwindling wetlands and peat bogs has me concerned.
I don't want to take from nature what is not renewable, if given the choice.
.
After much reading, I've discovered that Peat bogs are indeed a finite, non-renewable resource, and since the 1960's when the horticultural industry started making peat pots, which is a major threat to these valuable bogs, and the wildlife that lives near them.
Peat has been extracted at an alarming rate with huge machines and surface milling.
We as consumers can help to change this if we stop purchasing them!
So, I hope you'll agree with this and try this alternative. Newspaper!
Thank you, and happy gardening!
