A brassy, domed Turkoman button evokes the Middle Eastern desert. The rich textiles in the card are referenced by a ruffle of translucent ribbon along with dual stripes of velvet ribbon. Vintage metal gears pick up on the brass theme, and sequins reflect the light. Embroidered on the surface are freshwater and glass pearls, Czech glass, and seed beads of various colors. A swag of brass chain echos the drapery in the scene and several beaded dangles add motion. Inspired by the faded palette of the Stereoscope card, tones of brass, sepia, cream, ivory, and caramel predominate.
Each bead was meticulously hand-sewn unto a base of brown suede. It features both a pin back and an alligator clip so it can adorn your clothing and/or hair. It is backed in black eco-felt which is created from recycled plastic bottles.
Photographs cannot adequately capture the real luster of the pearls, the shimmer of the ribbon ruffle, the muted glow of brass, and all the detailed beadwork of this piece. It's much more lovely in person. It would make a fabulous addition to the headdress or costume of a vintage- or Victorian-inspired Tribal Fusion bellydancer.
