I occasionally fire outdoors in a raku kiln. In this fascinating process
rainbows of subtle color are created decorating the surface of each piece. These hues were formed during the approximately 30 minute cooling period after the glowing pot was lifted from the intense heat of the kiln. This vessel was allowed to smolder in a lidded, metal trash can filled with leaves and paper. Since the airflow was restricted, the glaze ingredients underwent chemical changes producing the splendid, varied hues.
This lovely, nontraditional piece stands about 7 inches high and is approximately 9 and 1/2 inches wide.
All Illyria pottery is lead free.
