This sterling silver freshwater pearl necklace has a petite floral focal pendant that I made of Fine Silver (.999). The unique soft green patina comes from oxidizing the silver until it reached this color. To make the floral design I took an impression from a celluloid cabochon that dates from the early 20th century, showing daisies, other flowers and an interesting large leaf. After forming the round, slightly domed design I mounted it on a teardrop shaped base of fine silver. After sanding, firing and finishing work, I thought the wonderful green color of the floral pendant would look lovely with a group of tiny freshwater pearls in shades of green to blue-green with gold, rose and lavender iridescence.

The colors of the Fine Silver focal pendant change depending on the angle of the light. It mostly looks like a soft green with blue in the mix with hints of soft yellow and soft reddish coloring in the crevices. The size is 13mm long x 10mm x 4mm in the center (1/2 inch long). I wire wrapped the pendant to a beautiful 5mm freshwater pearl in green & blue hues with lavender and gold iridescence. The pendant including the pearl above hangs 1-1/8 inches down (3cm) from the center of the necklace, flanked by pearls linked to sterling oval connectors, and accented by tiny sterling beads. Above this pattern more pearls are linked together, finishing in sterling chain and trigger clasp. The necklace is adjustable anywhere along the chain which ends in a wire wrapped pearl, to 18-3/4 inches (48cm). The photo of the necklace on the display bust shows it clasped at 16 inches, and it could be worn shorter by fastening the trigger clasp into any link of the chain.

The pendant is marked on the back .999FS and signed with my initials. To protect the patina colors, avoid wearing the necklace when taking a shower or swimming. Simply clean with a soft, damp cloth (no dipping in jewelry cleaner) and avoid letting the silver come into contact with anything abrasive. If it does, no worries, just polish it back to its original lovely silver. : )
