Definition of 'rootsy': going back to the origin of a style, especially in being genuine and unpretentious.
For our new ROOTSY bench we took the stylized twigs from our recent new TWIGGY series and turned them into roots. The 'roots', of course, double as legs - which despite appearing fragile are actually very strong. So don't think this beauty is made just to be admired – her main purpose is for sitting, naturally.
As with our TWIGGY series, this piece is made of multiple strips of end-grain birch plywood carefully glued together side by side by side. In this way the top ends up with a beautiful linear patterning, as do all the edges of the 'roots' - which are cut integrally as part of a strip, giving them more strength and making them seem to be growing naturally out of the piece. After much sanding, many coats of a hand-rubbed natural oil finish is applied, bringing out the many colour variations in the multiple thin layers of plywood.
The piece shown measures 59” long, 17” deep and 17” tall (147.5cm x 42.5cm) and the slab top is 1.5” (3.75cm) thick. However, since Patrick makes these to order he is happy to adjust the sizing to your needs (just convo us to discuss possibilities and cost differences, if any). Production time is approximately 3-5 weeks.

We have not listed a shipping cost here as this is a large item and shipping costs will vary greatly depending on destination. Unless you are in the Greater Toronto area (in which case Patrick can personally deliver your order for a nominal fee, or you can pick it up) this item would need to ship via a freight carrier, in which case we would need to calculate shipping costs on an individual basis.
