The Story: I had just switched jobs and was in between leaving one and starting the other when I decided to take this road trip in mid-November. I had attempted to go to the Black Hills of South Dakota, but the weather wound up chasing me to Arkansas. I then attempted to go to the Deep South and again… the weather chased me north to Kansas. I had remembered my grandfather commenting previously on how much he liked the Flint Hills area, so I decided to drive up through them and stumbled upon this schoolhouse along the way. At first, I was annoyed w/ the flag pole and swing set in the picture, but quickly came to appreciate their significance: the school had been long uninhabited by children and so had that swing set and flag pole.
