This is a really solid box with written references to the fish trade. On the side of the box reads 'Pickled Herrings'.
The handle is also made of wood with a couple of metal strips.
The bottom of the box is made of two separate pieces of wood leaving a gap and an open strip in the middle.
As would be expected in this type of box the finishing is not perfect and there is some rust of the metal strips on the handle.
There are also small holes in the wood around the edges of the box.
Impossible to resist this box and its fishy charm. Can be used for all sorts of purposes, storing pot plants, bottles, lose bits and pieces, toilet rolls!
