"Spring Around the Corner"
When I was relocated to the sandhills of North Carolina for four years, I was overwhelmed by the spellbinding sights, sounds and scents of Spring! I was literally moved to tears by the emergence of the greenery and floral array. RENEWAL was everywhere! "April showers bring May flowers" finally found significance in my life. My fifty six years in the desert southwest left a void in my understanding of changing seasons.
My first contribution to the Etsy Beadweavers Challenges is my bead crochet portrayal of the glories of Spring.
One eight inch section of my original design depicts rain droplets crocheted into the rope as well as cascading from the left side of the lariat. The pattern then blends from brown branches into greened up limbs culminating in a burst of flowers throughout the remaining rope. The final section on the right side of the piece includes several cardinals, the NC state bird. This entire bead crochet lariat measures 40 inches in length. Rope diameter is 7mm at its narrowest and 15mm at its widest.
To further enhance this floral transition fantasy, I incorporated a mother of pearl signed, hand-painted donut 44mm in diameter from Russia.
In designing this creation I used 19 colors of Japanese and Czech glass seed beads in various sizes. The pressed glass drops and flowers are of Czech origin. Threads are Fireline, heavy duty polyester, and #12 DMC cotton. The steel crochet hook is a 1.25. This project consumed 3 full weeks in its design and completion and is filled with love and attention to detail.
