Leaf buds and fresh new leaves sprout from the stems on this OOAK beadwoven necklace. This necklace was created for the Etsy Beadweaver's April 2011 challenge, themed "Spring Around the Corner." I'm living in New Mexico this spring, so the trees are already blooming and leafing out and I wanted my challenge piece to reflect that bright and cheerful gateway towards summer. (Last spring, I was in Indiana so my contribution to a similarly spring themed challenge reflected the gray, dreary, cold, wet and fickle spring days of the midwest. I'm glad to be back in New Mexico!)

To this end, I created peyote leaves in vibrant greens, plus some deeper green leaves that maybe came out the week before. Snaking along the peyote and netted sides of the necklace are bright green leaf buds just getting ready to come out. The closure is a beaded toggle and loop, completing the respective sides of the necklace.

The necklace is 17 inches (43 cm) around, and the sprig of leaves hangs 5 inches (13 cm) below the V.
