The paint used in this design is heat set for durability and non-toxic. I recommend hand washing with non-abrasive materials to preserve the color vibrancy. Paint contains no toxic ingredients and conforms to ASTM D-4236. I would recommend using this plate for purely decorative purposes or as a cookie or treat plate, as a knife or fork could damage the design.
