Cranes are a symbol of happiness in Japanese culture, as well as long life, peace, elegance, and grace. As cranes mate for life, crane motifs are often used at Japanese weddings and are good luck symbols for newlyweds. Folding a thousand origami cranes is an expression of hope and good wishes for the future, or is said to grant a wish. This vintage obi (sash for a kimono) features embroidery depicting origami cranes. White stitching with a bright red background also represent the Japanese colors of celebration -- red and white are very auspicious in Japan.
This 4.5 x 6.5 inch (11.5 x 16.5 cm) obi piece is matted with a 8 x 10 inch (20.5 x 25.5 cm) white double mat and is ready for easy framing in a standard 8 x 10 inch frame.
