I've tried really hard to incorporate the whimsical style of Wonderland into this very special tea set. Each piece is carefully hand painted to represent one of the most memorable characters from Alice in Wonderland. No two teacups are shaped or sized exactly the same- the Mad Hatter would prefer it this way.
The following describes how each character is portrayed in this set:
~ Alice: The curious young girl is portrayed on a rounded squared teacup from her waist down to her little black flats. She wears a light blue dress, white apron tied around the waist, black and white striped stockings, and black flats- this is unmistakably Alice. The coordinating saucer features red mushrooms with white spots along its curved corners as a nod to her arrival in Wonderland.
~ Mad Hatter: The crazed hatter is portrayed on a fluted squared (circular rim) teacup with one of his eccentric top hats. It is painted in a dimensional green with magenta polka dots and a blue band at the base. A 10/6 tag rests on top. The coordinating saucer features a big blue bow tie in one corner that would fit so stylishly well with his attire.
~ Cheshire Cat: Who could forget this grin? This feline is portrayed on a round teacup with its large white grin, whiskers, and nose. Its tail sweeps out near the handle in shades of gray and magenta stripes. The coordinating saucer features a woodsy look. Two wooden signs are painted on opposite sides of the saucer. One says "This way" the other says "That way." Green leaves are painted on the two other sides of the saucer.
~ White Rabbit: This on-the-go and dutiful rabbit is portrayed on a circular cup with its large white ears painted along the front. On the side of the cup is the top half of the rabbit's golden pocket watch. The coordinating saucer features the Roman numerals of a clock in a clockwork pattern.
~ Queen of Hearts: This hot tempered lady is portrayed on the teapot. The handle is painted black with white stripes while the spout features crisp black and white checkers. There is a a golden triangular trim painted around the lid as a nod to the Queen's golden crown. A vivid red heart is boldly painted in the center as an unmistakable symbol. Remember how the gardeners painted the roses red to cover up their mistake of planting white ones? The lid features white roses with red paint dripping from their petals while a solid red rose is featured on the center knob of the lid.
These teacups and the teapot are also for individual sale in my shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SwirlyGarden?ref=seller_info
This is truly a unique and fun way to sip your teas with guests and take in a classical story filled with such memorable characters.
** These dishes are dishwasher safe though I do recommend a gentle hand wash when possible to further ensure durability. I use a nontoxic glass paint that is heat set for scratch proof resistance. Each cup measures approximately 6-8 fluid ounces.
