For chickadees, nuthatches, warblers, wrens and other small song birds, the Aperture House is a vertical plane in the woods, with a 1-1/8-inch portal into a nesting safety zone.
Like all birdloft designs, Aperture House is built for nest comfort, resource conservation and to rest lightly in the trees.
Entry is high up to keep the little ones safe in the nest, so predators can’t reach in and the nestlings can’t climb out before they’re ready to fly.
The entry front is perchless, to foil predators.
The house is vented to let air enter and water exit.
Interior wood surface is roughsawn for better mobility and nest anchorage.
A hinged, locking top opens easily for house cleaning at season’s end.
The house is built with salvaged cedar and construction offcuts, all of it upcycled, roughsawn cedar. Exterior grade screws and brads. No glues or paint added. Approximate dimensions 12” x 7.25” x 7”
BIRDLOFT ETHOS OF GREEN
