Naomie Belayneh is an artist and painter from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. After graduating from the Addis Ababa Fine Art School, she attended the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio for a year. Naomie then moved to the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, where she has appeared in numerous exhibitions and displayed her work at various different venues. She has been a member of Empowered Women International since 2008.
Naomie focuses on nature’s gifts, the significance of women’s contribution to society, faith-based icons, and cultural expressions of beliefs and traditions - especially as all of these relate to her native country of Ethiopia. She particularly likes to paint images that portray her distinctive view of feminine beauty, which accentuates certain body features, such as large and imaginative eyes with long and slender necks. These women are often depicted in angel form, called “Gondar angels". The eyes are done in the traditional manner that is seen in Ethiopian art.
