Dim vales—and shadowy floods—
And cloudy-looking woods,
Whose forms we can't discover
For the tears that drip all over
Huge moons there wax and wane—
Again—again—again—
Every moment of the night
Forever changing places—
And they put out the star-light
With the breath from their pale faces.

(Edgar Allan Poe, excerpt Fairy-Land)

Vilas are said to be shamanic healing spirits, magical dancers, and woodland herbalists who guard women, animals, and the forest.

This marks the first of my three-dimensional metal clay pendants! It was carefully planned, crafted, sculpted, and finished to create a stunning forest vine pendant with an inset bezel setting. The stone is none other than a stunning blue star sapphire. It really will take your breath away.

I chose a unique chain for this, a textured diamond-link chain with a soft antique finish that matches the pendant. The chain is interspersed with shaded sapphires in three shades of blue.

The necklace measures 18" with an additional 1" extender at the clasp. The pendant is just over 1.5" high including the soldered loop bail; the back of the pendant holds a hallmark and my artist's mark.

The design of this pendant is my own adaptation from the one shared and taught by Anna Mazon.

Metal clay work is a very organic, handmade process which results in unique and one-of-a-kind creations. Small variations and imperfections are part of the beauty and charm of this medium, and it can produce some stunning results. Once fired, silver metal clay becomes .999 fine silver.
