Beyond the sock monkey!

5 year project! Handmade, no machine stitching.

This multi-media quilt /tapestry/wall panel measures 54" x 90" and truly is one of my favorite pieces that I have done. A very important and personal piece. I studied Elizabeth I in depths about 10+ years ago and this piece is an ode to the incredible craftmanship of the Elizabethan artisan and a celebration of those motifs.

The image is of Elizabeth Tudor at her coronation. In her hand she holds a book containing embroidery studies of Mary Queen of Scots to comment on their relationship.

The tapestry/quilt, begun around 1998-2000, was inspired by the book "ELIZABETHAN TREASURES- The Hardwick Hall Textiles." I have purposely left the right bottom half "un-finished" with a needle inserted into the embroidery to maintain the relationship to history. The back is exposed to purposely show the stitching.

The quilt is in three layers and the batting is cotton.
