My recycled sweaters coats have become so popular here on etsy that my shop is usually sold out. (yay!) I decided to write a colorful tutorial to teach people how to make a Katwise style coat.

I still sell tons of sweaters, like you see in the pictures. I will have many more for sale here in my Etsy shop on Tuesday May 22 @ 9pm EST.

You can “like” Katwise on Facebook to get a sneak peek at the upcoming sweaters.

If you want your own Katwise coat -PLEASE READ MY FAQ before emailing me:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/katwise/policy ...It takes me hours and hours everyday to answer all the emails, so, if you can find the answers to your questions here, my wrists and my sanity will be very grateful!

This listing is for a digital tutorial, not the finished coat!!

Despite all the different photos and names, there is just one tutorial - there's no need to buy more than one copy.

This is a PDF and i will send you the link via etsy convo within 24 hours (Though i usually send it within minutes.)

About This Tutorial:

I started making recycled patchwork hoodies 20 years ago, while I was a wee gypsy girl, following the Grateful Dead. Since then my style has evolved and grown into this patchwork maddness. I have made thousands and thousands of sweaters, and each one is unique.
This elf coat seems to have inspired quite a trend here on etsy, and Katwise is where it all started. These sweaters are an extension of my charmed and colorful life.

Since so many folks seem to want to make these sweaters themselves, I wrote this very bright and engaging 70 page tutorial. It is a PDF bursting with over 100 color photos, diagrams, anecdotes and sweater secrets. I have tried to make it fun and inexpensive enough that, even if you are not sure you can sew a coat, you still might enjoy the read.

Just look at my feedback to see thousands of happy customers. :-)

This is not a formal pattern with exact measurements, since those rarely work well with one of a kind garments. Rather, this is a picturesque journey through making a coat, which will give you the techniques you need to make one in the size and style that suits your spirit.

In addition to the beautifully detailed PDF, anyone who purchases this is invited to participate in an online discussion, where I am ready to answer any questions you have along the way. Free tech support from me and your fellow sweater artists!

I will also send you a link to a funny youtube video of me making a coat, which will help you visualize the process.

The Katwise coat pattern itself is very simple, but learning to sew with sweaters has a lot of tricks. This project is best suited for people who have experience sewing with a serger, but beginners are encouraged to follow their bliss and give it a try too!

You will need:
A serger
4 Spools overlock thread
Approx 20 Sweaters (Choosing the right sweaters is an art unto itself, and I will walk you through this process)

Some folks have made this with a zigzag stitch on their regular sewing machines. Although that is a little more time consuming, it is an option for you if you do not own a serger.

This tutorial also includes reccomendations for sergers, as well as how to choose the proper sweaters.

People who purchase this pattern are welcome to sell their finished coats it in small quantities, as long as they give my shop a shout out in their listing.

About Me:

My name is Kat, and this a one girl operation. All the sweaters in my shop are lovingly made by my hands only.

I am a wild-yet-calm hitchhiker girl who has spent years curiously wandering to remote corners of the globe. As part of the festival underground, I have always found new ways to thrive on my art and costumes. I strive to infuse everything I do with a sense of celebration and community. It is my hope that you put on my sweaters and feel that authenticity coming through.

I just bought a crazy old farm near Woodstock, NY which I am in the process of painting a million zillion colors (you can see pics on Facebook). I often refer to it as “The House That Sweaters Built” because it is you guys on etsy that made it possible. (thank you!!!!)

If you are looking to waste a little time, my labyrinthine website has lots of silly stories and arty distractions. You can see some of my crazy art cars, over the top costumes, and read about the time I hitchhiked to Timbuktu:

If you want to see these creations in action, please take a look at this (sorta dorky) youtube video of my twirling coats:

Please note:
*I do not do custom orders*
*I do not have a waiting list*
*Everything is “first come first serve” on the night I post new sweaters*

My coats tend to sell out in minutes, so the savvy shopper previews them on Facebook first. All relevant size/price/info will be included with each photo.

Most of all I want to say THANK YOU for the overwhelming love I have gotten on etsy. It is so incredibly life affirming for me to be able to follow my heart and have my creations received with such enthusiasm. I feel really humbled and grateful. Thank you thank you! A million thank yous!! I will sew my heart out for you guys!!
