Three rows of faceted blue sapphire rondelles are suspended from delicate 14k gold filled chain. These stones are gorgeous in varying tones from palest blue to midnight; they sparkle and dance in different lights. The ultra-fine chain features appx. 1.1 x 1 mm links; the shortest strand is approximately 16 inches, and the longest close to 19 inches. Each row of stones is mounted on strong but flexible cord, wrapped in 14k gold filledwire, and flanked by tiny gold accent beads.
The necklace is finished with a 14k gold filled fish hook style clasp set between petite gold filled beads. Absolutely one of a kind.

I use the highest quality filled gold for Gewgaws & Gimcracks jewelry. It has a higher gold content than alternatives like plated gold and vermeil.
Gold plating uses an electrostatic process to deposit a thin layer of gold over base metal like brass or copper. Because the gold layer is so thin, it is easily scratched and tends to tarnish quickly, so I don't recommend it for everyday wear (especially if you have metal allergies or sensitivities).
Gold vermeil is a more expensive version of gold plating; it involves a thin layer of gold over sterling silver. As with plated gold, vermeil is easily scratched and abraded, and tends to tarnish with regular wear.
Filled gold (also called ‘gold overlay’ or ‘rolled gold plated’) involves multiple layers of gold that are bonded mechanically to a base metal. It is stronger and more tarnish resistant than vermeil or plated gold. If you don't want to pay for solid gold, gold filled jewelry is the best alternative for pieces you wear often.
