The concept was to create a powerful necklace for a warrior, one he would gladly wear and pass on to his wife and children as a symbol of his love and protection for them. This necklace is inspired by the architectural imagery of Edoras as masterfully created by Alan Lee for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy movies .
The shape of the pectoral re-creates the half arches. The burnished golds, bronze and brown beads, wire and forged metals and Mammoth bone beads are inspired by the intricate great columns and frontispice decoration of the Great Hall of Edoras and by old Norse themes prevalent in the Trilogy.
Take a look at the last picture for the artistic reference.
Each bead is individually stitched in place to form this pectoral. I hand-weaved the wire neck band. The clasp is forged copper and another reference to the ancient Celtic and Norse mythology prevalent in the Lord of the Rings, and part of the decoration of the great hall of Edoras. The clasp is attached to spiral wire covered rings.
I added another tiny reference to antiquity by finishing the side bands with precious genuine Fossil mammoth bone beads
Look at all the pictures as the reverse is decorated with a trifect and could be worn back to front for a different, more feminine, softer look.
This necklace is 30 inches (76cm) long, made to fit a man's neck and chest.
It will also fits a woman as it will drape in her cleavage. It is great looking worn on a turtleneck sweater!
