I chose a 3 different patterned dishes for my focal tiles and pulled colors from them to make this mosaic. I used vitreous glass tiles in turquoise, a cinnamon brown, a gold and an indigo blue. The glass gems are a vivd bright green, tomato red, aqua and turquoise. The mini ceramics are a honey brown, a river blue and a leaf green.
The gold translucent oval tiles as well as the light aqua oblong glass gems running through the piece give it a 3D affect.
I love to combine beautiful dish tiles and other variations of objects to make my pieces. In this one I chose an aqua blue hoop earring then placed a ruby red jeweled pendant in the center. The 2 bright red glass gems balance the colors and I added green ceramic leaves to each.
The grout is painted a dove gray to show off all the tiles and the various designs.
The base is made of 1/2" plywood. I attached a 1/4" wood frame and painted it a brownish red to set off the cinnamon colored tiles.
This wall hanging measure 20 1/2" x 16 1/2" and hangs by a large metal D-ring. It can be hung verically or horizontally.
