What is Horsehair Raku?
Horsehair raku involves firing unglazed bisque ware which is removed from the kiln while still extremely hot. The horsehair decorating is performed when the ware is between 480 and 700°C. The strands of horsehair laid across hot ware leave a wandering linear smoke design on the surface. A unique design that can never be replicated.
