The central panel is taller than the rest and features a pot-bellied teapot in a dainty white vine print. The two smaller panels each depict a large teacup full of tea, one in a red vintage floral pattern, and the other in a blue floral. A back drop of fanciful trees with glowing buds in pinks and blues sets the mood and compliments the colors of the tea set. The table that the tea is set on is consistent through all three pictures, so that when hung close together, they give the impression of a continuous scene. Restrained black and white pinstriped frames add a finishing touch.
I made these pieces by appliqueing shapes using a zig-zag stitch, which gives them a modern, relaxed style. I sandwiched a layer of soft quilt batting between the face of each picture and the stiff backing fabric, so that the quilted shapes stand out in subtle relief. I added some hand embroidered detail for extra texture and complexity. For easy hanging, I stitched two small plastic rings to the upper corners of each picture.
The fabrics used are a mix of reclaimed vintage and modern fabrics and remnants of new fabrics leftover from other projects, which makes this a very environmentally friendly piece of art.
Added bonus: this art is soft and lightweight, so a great choice where earthquake safety is a concern.
The size of the larger panel is about 8.5" x 11" (the size of a standard sheet of paper). The 2 smaller panels are about 6.75" x 9.5" each.
