Now you can pick and choose to create your own personal set of atomic Art Deco Salem Streamline / Tricorne Dinnerware! We've acquired a large collection of these iconic vintage dishes in Mandarin Orange and white, and would love to help you pick out the pieces you want!

Part of the LA County Museum of Art's Art Deco collection, this fabulous 1930's pattern features crisp white triangular ceramic dishes bordered in bright orange, and was recently featured in the Washington Post's "Mad Men Look" interior design contest; one of our customers won 1st place, and our Luncheon set for 4 is featured in several of the photos!

:: How It Works ::
You can choose a set for a particular number of people – an intimate pair of place settings for 2 all the way up to a Wedding service for 12 – or just tell us what you’d like to spend and which pieces you prefer – working in collaboration with you, we will create a set exactly to your specifications, pulling from amongst the pieces listed below. Mandarin Orange is our most plentiful pattern, but please inquire if you're interested in a different Salem pattern.

Once we've designed your perfect set, we post a custom listing, which you then purchase. If you've added this listing to your cart and paid the $75, we treat it as a deposit, and deduct it from your final listing price. If you prefer, we offer Layaway payment plans and can split your payments into several installments; just ask for details!

What would best serve your needs? An intimate set for 2? A luncheon set for 4? How about a wedding service for 12? The 6-piece place setting featured in the first photo is priced at $75; the more you buy, the lower the price, so please inquire about current inventory and we'd be happy to create the perfect set for you.

:: A Bit About Condition ::
Most pieces are in Excellent to Good vintage condition, but given their age, would be best used only for special occasions - now 70-80 years old, normal signs of age include nicks or spots in the orange glaze here and there, and general crazing--crackling of the clear overglaze--is quite common. There may also be a small chip or 2 on the underside of the pieces, nothing visible from above.

We're committed to honest business principles and will describe all flaws to the very best of our abilities. We're also happy to provide additional photos upon request, if you'd like more than 3 at a time as the Etsy convo system permits, just provide us with your direct email address.

:: Care & Handling ::
It's tempting to stack the cups on top of each other, but this will eventually wear a spot through the glaze on the handle. As with any china with metallic embellishments (makers mark is stamped on bottom in platinum or gold ink), these pieces should not be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing. If a piece has crazing on its inner surface, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, tea, beets, etc).

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dishes were often decorated with glazes containing varying degrees of lead, a toxic chemical. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to lead when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; wash by hand soon after use and allow to air dry.

:: Salem Dinnerware Shapes & Patterns ::
Atomic, futuristic, the epitome of 1930's glamour, the Salem China Company's Streamline & Tricorne dinnerware shapes (created by Don & Viktor Schreckengost, Herbert Smith & Vincent Broomhall) smashed into the well-ordered design world of line and curve with Jetson-like conical cups with sharply angular handles, curvy triangular plates, saucers, and bowls...they were an instant Depression-era hit in "Movie Night" giveaways aimed at getting housewives into the theaters; see Susabella's blog for more info: http://susabellabrownstein.wordpress.com/2010/10/31/bewitched-by-salem-tricorne-streamline/

Salem produced a variety of designs and color patterns for their distinctive atomic & mid century Streamline, Tricorne and Century shapes, and it’s our intention to provide the most comprehensive collection of this unique Art Deco dinnerware available online, see our Atomic Salem Dinnerware section for more examples:
