This adorable little pendant is made from sterling silver and the pitcher plant charm measures 1.4 cm from the base of the piece to the top of the open lid and 0.45 cm across. This piece is perfect for ladies that like simple jewellery or very young ladies.
This necklace was inspired by the Green Pitcher Plant which is named for its distinguishable tubular shape and function, the Pitcher Plant (genus Sarracenia) is a carnivorous plant which makes its home mainly around the swamps and grassy plains from the south-eastern United States to northern Ontario. Three subspecies of this plant are endangered, including the Sarracenia oreophila or Green Pitcher. Enzymes in the water-filled ‘pitchers’ break down the proteins of insects that lose their footing and fall from the edge of the plant’s nectary ‘lid’, providing a nutritional supplement to what little the plant can absorb from the nitrate-lacking soil. Land development has added to this soil problem, and has also caused erosion and degradation in the areas where the Pitcher Plant is found, placing it on the list of threatened and endangered plants.
