19 beadwoven links representing the 9 mortal men, 7 dwarf-lords and 3 elven kings connect to the one ring represented by a wonderful old brass washer.

“Three Rings for the Elven-Kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their halls of Stone,
Nine for the Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne …
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them …”

This is the inspiration for my entry in the Etsy Beadweavers May challenge to bead something based on, or created for a character, creature, prop, or location in Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. My personal challenge was to make this entirely out of beads on hand and as I’ve always wanted to use beaded links in a piece - it seemed the perfect opportunity.
Nine links across the top are for the nine mortal men. I beaded these in the very uniform and machine looking finish of delica seed bead. Next came the seven links for the Dwarf-Lords, each in a unique color combination of dark, matte or deep shimmering lined Czech beads.
The three links to match the rings of the Elven Kings. - in the center is Narya the Great, Ring of Fire or Red Ring - on its left is Nenya, a white ring also called the Ring of Adamant and Ring of Water - and on the right, Vilya, also called a ring of sapphire, ring of air - a blue ring.

The three links of the Elven Kings link to the One Ring - except nothing I had seemed superior enough to represent the “One Ring”. So we went to Steve’s toolbox and borrowed this wonderful old brass washer (1 ¼” or 32 mm in diameter) and beat it up a bit more (hopefully he doesn‘t want it back!) then polished it up to its‘ Sunday best shine! Voila - they are bound together and as with my other pieces - look very much at home with a favorite t-shirt, or dressed up a bit for an evening out. The leather looking cord (8 l/2 inches each side) is a soft neutral dark grey. And the s-hook clasp in imitation stressed brass matches the One Ring - nicely.
