The small, hinged aluminum box would hold a standard bar of soap, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2".
The words "Soap" in a lovely, raised victorian style font decorates the lid.
I am not sure of the year or maker of this piece, but it has all the markings of vintage. There is a few shallow dents and some rust at the interior hinge, most likely from water.
This piece would make a great accent in a shabby chic or victorian period bathroom.
