As a little girl my father and I visited my great grandmother weekly. He mowed the grass while I weeded her flower beds. After finishing our work we gathered at her kitchen table for conversation, ice cream, and payment, a roll of nickels. My last visit with her was also with my father. We gathered around her bedside in the nursing home and reminisced. I remember she ached for her home dearly and eased her pain by pinning a collage of flower images on her wall. I am thankful to my Great Grandmother for the hints of your red hair that highlight my brunette and for cultivating within me a skill and passion for gardening.
The Process
I draw the image using pencil, dots, and small markings. I take the original drawing and design the layout for each card. From the original I make prints on a heavy white card stock. I trim, score, and fold the cards by hand. If the original drawing includes color I will then add color. I deliver the cards with corresponding white envelopes and protect them in a cellophane sleeve finished with a bow.
