Introducing Queen of Hungary Astringent

I have been using this astringent for many years and wanted to share it with you. I make mine similar to Rosemary Gladstar's recipe but add some more herbs. It has helped get rid of the rough patches on my face and back of my hands.

Excerpted from Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbs for Natural Beauty, by Rosemary Gladstar. Copyright (c) 1999 by Rosemary Gladstar.

Astringents are used to remove excess oil from the skin. In addition, they tone the skin and help prepare it for moisturizing. While they are especially appropriate for oily skin, any type of skin can benefit from using this pore-tightening astringent.

This wonderful astringent lotion has been hailed as the first herbal product to ever be produced and marketed. Legend has it the early Gypsies formulated it and claimed it to be a cure-all. Whether or not it is I hardly know, but I do know that it is an excellent astringent for the face (both rose water and witch hazel are light astringent tonics) and a great rinse for dark hair.

I think in some ways it is one of the world’s finest cosmetic formulas. It combines gentle, common herbs
in a masterful way; it’s easy and inexpensive to make,
and very versatile. The Gypsies claimed it was good as a hair rinse, mouthwash, headache remedy, aftershave, foot bath, and who knows what else!

Vinegar contains malic acid which is a gentle nonabrasive exfoliating astringent. The organic rosewater and witch hazel helps to dilute the vinegar, is a mild astringent and calms and soothes redness. The infusion also includes the following herbs:

lavender - especially good for toning and soothes irritated skin
lemon balm - also an astringent and good for all skin types
chamomile - treats sensitive and irritated skin. helps acne.
rosemary - know for cell regenerating and antiseptic properties.
calendula - calming and anti-inflamatory
fragrant roses - good for mature and environmentally damaged skin
lemon peel - benefits blotchy acneic skin
raspberry leaf - contains lactic acid and removes dead skin buildup
sage- astringent disinfectant
fennel seed - hydrating benefit to all skin types.
comfrey leaf - healing emollient
apple cider vinegar
rose hydrosol

After infusing the vinegar for 6 months I dilute it with equal organic rose hydrosol and decadent rose otto essential oil. It still smells like vinegar but the rose also come through.

Packaged in a beautiful 2 oz recyclable glass bottle. Your skin will feel the difference!
