I grew up reading books like Sarah Plain and Tall and Little House on the Prairie while my mother quilted. We'd go on road trips to Pennsylvania Dutch country to get fabric and buttermilk pies and I loved the warmth of it all. I've made this piece as a reflection of that as well as the time after the worst of the depression had passed and a good and simple life was a real possibility again.
I've chosen the colors Soft Sunlight, Patina Blue, Parchment Gold and Gold Seal as a modern version of the colors from this time and a reminder of the books these images come from. Then I designed and hand cut these four 2.25 x 3.5" pieces in the prairie tradition.
It ships unframed, but permanently float mounted to an 8x10", clear, .60 thick plexi-glass and ready to be placed into ANY standard 8x10 frame. Framed on it's own the work can be viewed from either side but you can just as easily turn it into a regular piece by framing it as you would anything else.
Thanks!
